Role and Responsibilities:

Job Title: Financial Controller

Reporting Line: CFO

Direct Reports: Group Accountant

Summary of Role:  Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will take responsibility for Financial Reporting, Statutory Accounts, Board Reporting, Treasury, Balance Sheet Control and Cash Forecasting. They will develop a strong Financial Control framework and culture of continuous improvement to ensure compliance with all regulatory authorities well as undertake ad project work as required by the CFO 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the Group maintains a strong financial control environment by developing and implementing new financial processes and improvements
  • Leading and coaching the finance team of 3, to ensure the team understands the company vision and objectives and is committed to delivering these
  • Lead the month end close process, including critical analysis of overheads and Balance Sheet
  • Review and presentation of group results to senior management
  • Preparation of the monthly Board Pack for Board reporting
  • Develop a robust treasury and cash management function
  • Develop and provide business partnering services within the Finance Team and across the wider business
  • Review of VAT returns 
  • Review of the Fixed Asset Register
  • Ensure completion of monthly payroll processing, including payroll returns, P11Ds and submitting PSA returns to HMRC
  • Complete monthly pension submissions 
  • Preparation of annual R&D Tax Credit claims
  • Complete Share based reporting returns 
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors and other services (in both the UK and France) to ensure compliance with all regulations 
  • Plan and lead the year end Statutory audit process for the group
  • Work closely with the commercial finance team to support budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Integration of any future acquisitions
  • Ad hoc project work – such as integration of our French entity and support in implementing a new ERP system in 2022
  • To act in the best interests of BigChange at all times 

You will be a qualified accountant, with demonstrable experience in a senior accounting roles. With a strong and collaborative leadership style, you will be able to demonstrate how you have guided and mentored teams to deliver strong results. 

With a tenacious approach, you will be capable of seeing opportunities to improve, simplify systems and / or processes to deliver efficiency. 

Person specification:

KnowledgeHold a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
Minimum 5 years post qualification in a similar role
Good knowledge of Sage accounting and Sage payroll packages

SkillsStrong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP / IFRS)
Experience of leading a high performing teamLeading month end, year-end and Statutory audit processes
Tax experience, to include:
– R&D Tax Credits
– VAT returns
– Corporation Tax
Experience of working for businesses under private equity ownership
Fluent French speaker
Knowledge of French GAAP
Transfer Pricing
